Gordonvale sits at the foot of the Range where the Mulgrave River comes down, about 25 minutes south of the Cairns CBD. It is a mix of older timber houses around the town centre, cane country either side, and newer estates filling in toward Edmonton.
The older housing stock is the interesting part of the job here. Plenty of it was built long before air conditioning was assumed, so an install is often about working out how to cool a high-ceilinged room properly rather than just bolting a unit to the nearest wall.
On the commercial side, this is agricultural country, and agriculture means cold storage. Refrigeration for produce, cold rooms and packing sheds is the same trade as a commercial kitchen — the stock is just worth more per pallet.
